Running a website or app that allows users to upload images can be a security nightmare. In addition to having to secure file uploads to ensure users are only uploading valid files, most services will also need some form of content moderation to regulate objectionable content. Photo Guardian is designed to be the missing step that comes after basic security practices by automatically moderating image uploads. Photo Guardian is a modern and easy to use service that allows developers to automatically censor or filter out images that contain objectionable content based on customizable criteria. As a Photo Guardian user, you can create 'targets' with specific rules about what content to recognize, and what to do when it's detected. You can then point your own services or applications to this target to automatically moderate images on a file-by-file basis.
Photo Guardian is designed to be the first line of defense in a more comprehensive image moderation process. The system uses computer vision and databases look-ups to moderate images. While these steps will correctly classify the vast majority of images, Photo Guardian is far from infallible. A determined user who tries to conceal objectionable content in an image such that it is not detected is likely to succeed. As such, Photo Guardian should not be your only line of defense in moderating images.
