Custom Outlets

Add additional cigar lighter, USB, and 120V power outlets to your car.

Even "neatly" managed cables plugged into stock power plugs can't compete with the versatility of custom installed ports. Get power exactly where you need it, and avoid running cables all around the controls in your car.

Regardless of whether you need a USB port under the dashboard to discretely power mood lighting, or one right next to the steering wheel for your phone, custom power outlets can be installed in extremely specific places, based on your needs.

2/2

Every year, we add more and more electronics to our lives. It's not uncommon for a single person to have a phone, smart watch, laptop, and tablet on them every day. As such, the power outlets that come with your car may not be adequate forever. Luckily, power outlets like cigarette lighter plugs, USB ports, and 120V plugs can be retroactively added to a car. Whether you need a few extra USB ports to power your friends' phones, or you need a high-current 120V plug to power tools in your truck, both can be done by tapping into your car's electrical system.

Diverse

Almost all cars run on 12V electrical systems, and use cigar lighter style ports to power devices. However, most mobile devices run on 5V. Many home devices and tools run on 120V. V0LT allows you to add ports of all kinds to your car.

Efficient

Aftermarket power transformers put minimal load on your car's electrical system, and function nearly identically to the plugs already in your car.

Affordable

Surprisingly, installing aftermarket power outlets is almost always less expensive then opting to have them installed as a factory option.

Safe

Any device that carries high current is inherently dangerous. V0LT takes all appropriate steps and installs all appropriate hardware to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Durable

V0LT uses hardware designed with longevity and durability in mind. Power transformers produce a lot of heat, so using high quality products with reliable heat management is critical for durability.

Repairable

Like all other V0LT installations, all parts are open and generic to make it easy to repair or upgrade your aftermarket outlets, even if you don't return to V0LT.

Tapping

In order to power your devices, custom power plugs tap into the electrical system in your car. This process is done by adding an additional fuse to your fusebox. This makes your custom power system behave safely in the event of a failure, while still keeping it easy and affordable to repair.

Tapping into your car's electrical system is required to power the custom outlets, but if you have previously had hardware installed by V0LT, you may already have a distribution block of fuse panel. If this is the case, you can disable this option.

Drilling

For the cleanest possible look, you can have power outlets embedded in the interior panels of your car. This process involves drilling and holes, and therefore is much more time consuming, since safe drilling locations need to be researched.

While you get to choose where the plugs are mounted, there's no guarantees that any particular location is possible. I don't mount hardware around airbags, seatbelt mechanisms, emergency controls, or other safety critical components. If you'd like to see if a particular mounting location is feasible, don't hestitate to reach out!

If ports are not drilled and mounted in interior panels, they will come out between gaps in panels with a short cable. You have the option of only having certain ports drilled. However, the estimate calculator doesn't account for this. Please get in contact for a more accurate estimate.

Connectors

Accidents happen, and things will break. Whether you spilled coffee on your car's radio, or a poorly secured box crushed an interior panel, adding removable connectors to the aftermarket power ports in your car makes them easy to temporarily remove if you need to make repairs to another part of the car.

Connectors are hidden, just like the rest of the wiring, but make it much easier to remove panels without damaging your aftermarket ports. When something goes wrong that requires you or a mechanic to remove an interior panel, they can pop the panel out like normal, then remove the connectors holding the ports in to completely disconnect the panel from the car.

Cigar Lighter Ports (12V)

Most automotive electronics, like dashcams, CB radios, and radar detectors, run on 12V. Any device that plugs into a cigar lighter style barrel plug uses 12V.

USB Ports (5V)

Any device that plugs into a USB port charges on 5V. Add USB ports to power devices like smart phones, smart watches, power banks, and more.

If you want multiple USB ports installed, consider getting a higher powered 5V supply to prevent slow-downs when charging multiple devices simultaneously.

USB ports come in multiples of two, since there are two USB ports per panel.

5V Power Supply

Since your car's electrical system runs on 12V, a power supply needs to transform 12V into 5V for USB ports. The wattage rating of the power supply determines the how quickly your USB devices will charge. If you have multiple USB ports, and plug multiple devices in, the available electrical current will be divided across the devices.

Home Outlets (120V)

The 3-prong plugs you're used to seeing in your home power 120V devices. These kinds of plugs don't have many uses in cars, but there is certain scenarios that they might be useful. For example, many work trucks have 120V outlets to run power tools.

Unlike the 5V and 12V ports, these aren't embedded in interior panels in your car. The 120V transformer and outlet are in a single self contained unit for safety. This unit can be mounted anywhere in the car for easy access.
